This long mattress needle is perfect to use with a 21-hook darning loom and can double up as a beater too. 
 
Mattress needles have a sharp point which helps you easily pierce through fabric when stitching, so they are best used to repair woven fabrics only.
 
The larger eye will accomodate thicker thread such as Sashiko thread and fine yarn.
